Capt. Raman K. Mehra – Director
Graduated from the T.S. Dufferin in 1959 and obtained his Certificate of
Competency as Master (FG) in 1967. He sailed on Indian flag vessels as Master
for six years he joined Barber Ship Management, Hong Kong in 1997 as Master on
their vessels with different nationalities of crew. After sailing with them as
Master for two years he was based in Bombay as their representative to build up
manning from India.
In 1982 he promoted Indian Ocean Ship Management Pvt. Ltd now known as Barber Ship
Management (India) Ltd. to take care of the increasing business of Barber
International from India. He was the Managing Director of the company till he
retired in March 1999, except for the period April 95 to March 97 when he
was asked by Barber International to be in Kuala Lumpur.
The increase in business required him to promote Indus Shipping Pvt. Ltd now known
as Bergesen D.Y. (India) Pvt. Ltd. He was also the Managing Director of the
company till he voluntarily retired. He continues to be on the board of both
the companies as Non Executive Director.
He was responsible for successfully increasing the manning of the BARBER
fleet from 5 to 125 vessels. In 1985 he was also appointed as Managing Director
of Indus Shipping Pvt. Ltd., a company responsible for manning the BERGESEN d.y.
fleet. He shifted to Kuala Lumpur from 1995 to 1997 to look after Barber's world
wide manning.
During the above period business in India grew from 5 vessels to 125 vessels.
He is an extremely people oriented person with all the necessary skills for
successfully managing a very large base of fleet personnel of different
nationalities.
He is a founder member and ex-Chairman of FOSMA (Foreign Owners and Ship Managers
Association), a body formed with the primary interest of serving the Indian
seafarers in the field of maritime education and training.
After gaining experience and knowledge of the working of different departments
in Ship Management he decided to join the software industry to develop software
system giving precise information to the management for decision making and
smooth running of the organization.
